I wonder what this could be. Oh! It's another contest announcement... arghhhh!!!

Contest announcements simply should not appear in the ordinary messages section. I only say this because my message count of late has been so desparately low that I've actually had more contest announcements than activity messages or comments or replies It's just like getting a text message and finding that it's from your service provider; or like if you're waiting for a call from someone you really like and then someone else calls you and for a second you think "oh great" and then you see who's actually calling you. Infuriating... but aside from that I'm not actually in a bad mood

I've decided to use the "request critique" feature on my recent uploads simply because it says there's a chance they might attract more attention. I'm really pleased with my latest uploads from my tour (with the choir) to Bruges and Paris, yet these images seem to have received next to no views or favourites I'm only posting this journal entry to explain the main, greedy reason I've decided to do this. I don't actually want in depth critiques on everything and have, up to now, been very selective over images that I would actually like to recieve in depth feedback on. Now, however, I don't really care. I want more people to see my photos, lets be honest, who wouldn't want more views?

After seeing this piece pitposum.deviantart.com/art/It… as today's DD some thoughts arose in my mind.

Firstly I will just copy what I wrote as a comment regarding this:

"This is undeniably amazing work, however, certainly at the resolution the image is displayed here, it's indisinguishable from a photograph! It even has a wide angle lens distortion effect at the periphery. If this were a photograph it would be a pleasant image of a house, nothing amazing really but nice enough. Now the creator of this piece has the freedom to create any world he wishes, with immense attention to detail, total and utter freedom. So why choose, in the context of one's imagination, a house that one could actually physically see in the real world?

I think this artist has the potential to create something that is truly stunning rather than photo reaslistic renders of actual things.

I feel this piece raises a question about sheer skill and art. Can skill alone make great art?"

Just think what you might do if you had the skills to do what this "artist" does!

It's as if the staff at DA were trying to desensitize everyone to the human form. I can't remember a day when there wasn't at least one nude photo being featured. I don't have anything against nude photography, I might even admit to liking some of it but it seems to me that they are featured with unnecessary frequency and regularity. It's as if to say "we're free to look at naked bodies, hooray!" Well yes we are, and have been for many many years, anything new to report?

My apologies for the little rant. After having been trying to log on to Student Finance Direct's awful website (with more internet security than the access codes to nuclear warheads) I have been left in a suffocating swamp of bureaocratic rubbish and with a desire to go and kick the shit out of someone

Occasionally, when browsing through DDs and then looking at a picture from my gallery: it appears as if my picture is one of the daily deviations and, for a second I think "could it be?" before realising that it's just a bug. Has anyone else encountered this. Very cruel indeed
